Wayne Massengale

Wayne Family 2015

Fiddle, Lead Guitar & Acoustic Guitar

Wayne Massengale was born right down the road in Harrison, Arkansas and has been performing in some of Branson’s biggest shows since 1981 performing a decade-long stint with the award-winning Country Tonite show as well as Clay Cooper’s Country Express show. Wayne also played with Roy Clark for five years and has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville Now, Hee Haw, and alongside Tanya Tucker.

While Wayne’s skills on the fiddle continually astound audiences, he is also known as the “wildman” on stage with the band. While that wild stage persona helps him stand out and brings a comedic element to the show, Wayne said it’s the music that is most important to him. “The show is visual, so we need to show personality, but I don’t want my musicianship to go by the wayside because I’m not meat and potatoes, which is to say I’m not drums, bass, guitar or piano,” he said. “I’m the earring, the pearl or the necklace on the dress, so I have to bring something different to the table aside from being a wall that stands there and plays fiddle.”

The combined mixture of stellar fiddle skills and perfect stage personality helped Wayne become the host for several fiddle contest around the country. “I’m proud of that and the fact I can share Branson and the show with a worldwide audience,” he said. “Branson is as good as it gets for me.”

Wayne captured the Arkansas State Championship as a fiddle player and has been named the Most Promising Fiddler by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association (SPBGMA). All that in addition to being named Branson Fiddler of the Year seven times.

Wayne and his wonderful wife Melody, who also performs at Grand Country, have two sons Garrett and Dillon. When Wayne isn’t practicing or performing, he enjoys detailing cars and doing yard work. He’s also a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
