Larry Allred has been playing country music almost as long as he can remember. His father not only taught him how to play the bass guitar by the age of 9 but also instilled a deep-rooted love of classic country music during Larry’s formative years growing up in Kansas City. Before joining the Grand Band a decade ago, Larry had the thrill of his life backing some of his country music heroes like Cal Smith, Freddie Hart, Ray Price, Hank Thompson, Ferlin Husky and many other performers.
“As a young man, I never in a million years thought I’d get to share the stage with my heroes,” he said. “It really was like a dream come true.”
In addition to performing alongside those country legends, Larry has been a part of several of Branson’s most popular shows including Lost In The 50’s, Country Tonite, and Dalena Ditto. Honing his skills over the past 40-plus years, Larry was also awarded Branson’s Bass Guitar Player of the Year multiple times. Larry is a devoted family man, spending time with his wife Dawn and their daughters Allison and Halie, as well as their dog, Buddy. Recently, Larry became a proud grandpa for the second time.
When he isn’t performing, Larry enjoys landscaping and, although he isn’t very good at it, he is a confessed “closet remodeler.” (Not one who remodels closets, but one who enjoys remodeling projects).
“My favorite project has to be tiling my kitchen and bathroom floor,” he said. “I was shocked because not only did all the pieces fit together but I did it right.”
