Jon Drockelman

New South Baritone Singer

Like many entertainers, Jon knew from a very early age what he wanted to do with his life; so, he began singing at the ripe old age of five. Born in Pekin, Illinois, Jon sang anything and everything, wherever he could. He constantly honed his craft and put in years of hard work which paid off when he was awarded the highest honor for high school choral, the National School Choral Award.

Throughout his college career, Jon studied musical theatre and music education at Concordia University, at River Forest. There, Jon performed in musicals like Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, and Phantom of the Opera. He also performed at the famous Orchestra Hall in Chicago before heading south to Branson.

Hitting Branson in the early 2000s, Jon performed in shows at Silver Dollar City and the White House Theatre before becoming an original cast member of the Comedy Jamboree show in 2004. Jon’s vocal prowess became evident to producer Mike Patrick, and he was soon filling in whenever the boys in New South needed a break.

That commitment led to Jon becoming a full-time member of the group once longtime member, Trey Wilson, departed in 2013. “During our three month search for a lead singer, he filled in as tenor,” Mike said. “Throughout that period of time it became obvious to us we needed to add Jon to the group.”

Even though he has only been with the boys in New South for little more than a year, you wouldn’t know it from the chemistry he has on stage with the other three members of the group. “It feels like he’s been with us all along,” New South lead singer, Luke Menard, said. “He’s a great talent and a great guy.”

When he isn’t busy on stage, Jon enjoys relaxing and watching movies and TV shows, reading books by some of the 20th century’s most influential authors, and watching sports. He is also a huge fan of the jam band Phish, even following them on tour. “I got to see them play at Red Rocks in Colorado,” he said with a smile. “That was one of the greatest musical moments I’ve ever experienced in my life.”
