Deb Rainwater

Wardrobe Designer & Manager

With dozens of cast members, hundreds of costume changes and literally thousands of pants, shirts, slacks, skirts, and jackets someone has to organize all that wardrobe. That person is the gifted Deb Rainwater. Deb not only designs the costumes, but she orders, fabricates, repairs, and catalogues all of them.

Deb was born in Yuma, AZ, but grew up all over the country as an “Air Force brat”. Her family moved to southwest Missouri from Seattle, WA. While she was still in school, she fell in love with the Ozarks. After graduating from high school, Deb began a 13 year career at Silver Dollar City working and designing costumes for the many shows produced by SDC. That is also where she met Grand Country’s Producer, Mike Patrick. “Mike and I really hit it off,” she said. “It was obvious he had talent and ideas, and I always enjoyed working with him.” Soon after, Deb was diagnosed with breast cancer. She showed the same spirit that has made her such a big hit with cast and crew in her fight against cancer. She has been cancer free now for 16 years.

Deb eventually decided to slow down a little and opened her own sewing business in the small town of Clever, MO. A short time later, Mike called her up and offered her a job at Grand Country. She accepted and has been a part of the team for the past 11 years. “It is said so much it’s become a cliché, but this place really is a family,” she said. “Look at how many shows and businesses have this massive turnover rate. Not here, and that’s because Mike treats us all like family.”

While you might think three shows a day at one theater is an easier task than the SDC lineup, Deb said that isn’t the case. “I am responsible for every piece of clothing worn in all our shows,” she said. “And believe me, there are a lot of them. With so many shows and different people performing, something needs to be fixed or stitched nearly every day.”

Deb is married to her husband, Kevin. They have 2 children (a son and a daughter), three grandkids, and three grand cats. She said she enjoys spending time with the family when she isn’t working, but like she said, “there is always something to do around here.”
